Students from age 14 upward can apply for an internship, which will usually last between one and two weeks. Necessary qualifications include reliability, interest in our animals as well as in the jobs associated with the Sanctuary (e.g. zoo keeper, vet, biologist, etc).

In addition to that you can apply for the „Bundesfreiwilligendienst“ (federal volunteer service) if you are interested, older than 18 years and a German citizen. Your duty at the SPEA should last at least 10 months at the SPEA, however your volunteer service can be expanded for up to 18 months.

Please contact us some time in advance since maximum of two internships and one „BuFDi“ can work at the same time at our grounds. Unfortunately we are not able to pay our interns.

The work as a „BuFDi“ is a full-time job, which usually means 38 hours a week at the SPEA, and will be rewarded with a monthly allowance..
